Centre Guidelines
Attending a Montessori class with your child involves adhering to specific guidelines designed to create a harmonious and effective learning environment.
Caregivers attending class: Each child must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver, such as a parent, nanny, or partner, who will be listed on the “Programmes Agreement” form.
Screens: During class, it is important to minimise screen use to ensure that the focus remains on the children and their activities. Quick photos are allowed, but any phone calls should be taken outside the classroom.
Toys: Personal toys should be placed on a designated shelf to maintain the communal ethos of shared resources.
Pacifiers: The class is a pacifier-free zone to encourage engagement, but understanding is extended to children who need more time to adjust.
Snack: Snack time is structured, with toddlers preparing and eating snacks in the kitchen area. Parents are encouraged to adhere to these guidelines unless specific dietary needs require otherwise. These measures help foster an inclusive and cooperative atmosphere conducive to the Montessori method of learning
Movement: The approach outlined here emphasises fostering a nurturing and respectful environment for children by balancing freedom with safety, promoting independence, respecting personal space, and building trust. Allowing children freedom of movement encourages exploration and self-discovery, but it is essential to set boundaries to ensure their safety and respect for others.
Independence: Children are encouraged to explore, to solve problems and to think for themselves.
Dr. Montessori’s quote, “Never do for children what they can do for themselves” reminds us that by stepping back after demonstrating new skills empowers children to learn and grow confidently. Respecting personal space is crucial for developing social awareness and empathy, teaching children to recognise and honour others' boundaries.
Trust: Trust is cultivated by allowing children the opportunity to try new things, supporting them through challenges while ensuring they feel secure. This holistic approach supports the development of confident, empathetic, and self-reliant individuals.
Atmosphere: We strive to cultivate a positive and peaceful learning environment. It is important to avoid negative conversations or comments, which can disrupt the harmony of the classroom. Encouraging kindness and understanding fosters a supportive atmosphere for all.
Volume: The tone and volume of our voices are crucial in maintaining a calm setting. Adult voices, being naturally louder and deeper, can easily overwhelm sensitive young ears. Therefore, we encourage speaking in a quiet, calm manner. This not only sets a considerate example for children but also helps them remain aware of themselves and others, contributing to a serene environment.
Sharing: In our classroom, we prioritise respecting each child's focus and engagement. If a child is deeply absorbed in an activity, it is considered unavailable for others to use. Once the activity is no longer in use, it becomes open for anyone to select from the shelf or table.
Clothing: For practicality and comfort, it's essential to bring a change of clothes for your child in case they get wet or dirty during class activities.
Parent-Toddler
Toddlers should wear non-slip indoor slippers for safety and independence. Socks are not sufficient; soft shoes with Velcro closures are recommended.
Extra underwear is a good idea as we encourage toilet independence if your child is still learning toilet independent skills.

Infant and Movers
Infant - Newborns' clothing should be comfortable and lightweight, ensuring complete freedom of movement. Hands and feet should remain uncovered to facilitate sensory exploration.
Movers -Babies should be barefoot and dressed in short-sleeved onesies or similar clothing that allows for unrestricted movement, with legs and forearms uncovered.
Parents - Clothing for parents should be loose and comfortable.
No shoes policy: For the safety of everyone, especially babies who crawl, we do not allow any footwear used outdoors to be used in our premises. There is a large shoe cabinet for your footwear.
For Parent-Toddler programmes, it is advisable not to walk around with only socks as we have activities that involve water. Both parents and children should invest in indoor shoes.
Pets are not allowed: Unfortunately, as much as we love your furry friends, we do not allow pets to enter the premises, so it is best to keep them at home.
These guidelines help ensure that you and your child can thrive in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. Thank you for complying with them.
