Infants and Movers group

The Nurture & Connection Series

In collaboration with

Almon,

Montessori Family Centre is

running 2 programmes for

Babies and Parents.

Session 1

The "Movers" Group

(10–18 Months)

Open to Mums and Dads

Wednesdays, 09h15 – 10h30

Focus: Family Wellness & Toddler Transition

Inclusive Family Bonding

Open to both Mums and Dads, this session celebrates the interactive connection between parent and child as babies move toward independence.

Parental Wellness & Functional Strength

Specifically designed to combat "toddler-related strain," we address physical stiffness and aches associated with carrying heavier, active children. We use functional yoga to release tight muscles and build the strength required for this mobile parenting phase.

Specialised Recovery: We continue to offer birth recovery elements for mothers, acknowledging that physiological healing from childbirth is a long-term journey.

Developmental Movement: Focuses on the "Movers" stage—crawling, cruising, and first independent steps. We incorporate upbeat songs, clapping, and rhythmic play to encourage healthy motor patterns and language development.

Integrated Support: The Montessori Guide supports the babies' exploration of the specially designed Montessori materials which help support the movement milestones and fundamental motor patterns of babies. Parents are encouraged to engage meaningfully with their child and are able to address their own physical and mental well-being alongside their child.

Session 2

The Infants Group

(6 weeks – 10 Months)

Intended for mums

Wednesdays, 11h00 - 12h15

The "Fourth Trimester" Transition: We provide a gentle space for babies to transition from the womb to the world through rhythmic movement and mindful handling that mimics the security of being held. We use slow, rhythmic rocking and swaying techniques accompanied by gentle humming or lullabies to mirror the parent's heartbeat and settle the baby’s nervous system.

Infant Developmental Play

We follow the baby’s natural curiosity and physical milestones without ever rushing their progress.

Developing Head Control: Through gentle "tummy time" support and eye contact, we help babies strengthen their neck and upper back muscles.

Encouraging Rolling: We use diagonal stretches and leg movements, paired with rhythmic nursery rhymes, to help the baby discover the momentum needed to roll over safely.

Supporting Sitting: Focusing on spinal alignment and hip opening through gentle leg rotations, we prepare the baby's body for an upright position.

Soothing & Digestion

Sessions include infant massage and relaxation techniques designed to aid digestion, alleviate colic, and promote deeper sleep. We use soft, melodic songs to create a predictable and calming routine during massage.

Focus: Sensorial Discovery & Maternal Restoration

Support for the Mother

This session focuses on rebuilding core and pelvic floor integrity while using breathwork to regulate the nervous system. We specifically address physical discomfort and stiffness—such as "nursing hunch" or lower back pain—through stretches that release tension in the shoulders, neck and spine caused by the repetitive movements of early parenting

The Supportive Presence in the Montessori Environment

The Montessori guide is present to help care for, settle and facilitate exploration of specially designed Montessori materials. This provides parents with the mental space to engage in their practice while remaining fully connected to their child.

The Montessori environment provides a safe space for babies to explore which encourages their natural curiosity, which is crucial for cognitive development.

Exposure to a variety of textures, sounds, and visual stimuli helps develop sensory skills. Mobiles, treasure-style baskets, soft fabrics, gentle rattles, colourful objects and wooden toys with different textures are available in the environment.

A specially designed mirror allows babies to explore the world around them and foster self-recognition and eventually aids the babies in pulling themselves up.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that attending a new class with a baby can feel daunting. These FAQs are designed to help you prepare for our sessions so you can arrive feeling calm, informed, and ready to connect.

  • We offer two distinct sessions tailored to your child's specific developmental stage:

    ·       The “Infants” Group (11h00 to 12h15)

Designed for babies aged 6 weeks –10 months. This session is specifically for mothers and focuses on postnatal recovery, sensorial discovery, and the "Fourth Trimester" transition.

    ·       The "Movers" Group (09h15 – 10h30)

Designed for babies aged 10–18 months. This session welcomes both Mums and Dads. It focuses on toddlers transitioning to independence (crawling, cruising, walking) and functional strength for parents to handle the physical demands of a mobile child.

  • This is a 75-minute specialist programme delivered in three parts. While we have a structure, the running order is flexible based on how the mothers and babies are feeling on the day. We generally cover three key elements:

    ·       The Insight: Expert guidance on your baby’s milestones (like rolling or head control) and the science behind your own physical recovery.

    ·       The Practice: A "movement lab" where you engage in restorative stretches and strength work while your baby enjoys rhythmic movement, massage, and Montessori-style play.

    ·       The Circle: We share tea, snacks, and a facilitated support circle to connect with other parents and build confidence.

  • Not at all. We respond to the room, not the clock. We follow the baby’s natural curiosity and physical milestones without ever rushing their progress. If the babies are active and alert, we may jump straight into developmental movement. If the group is feeling exhausted, we might prioritise restorative breathwork or open the support circle earlier. We adapt the flow to meet the immediate needs of you and your little one.

  • Absolutely. We focus on "functional strength" and restoration rather than complex poses. For mothers, we specifically target areas under strain from early parenting, such as the "nursing hunch," lower back pain, and pelvic floor integrity.

  • Yes. We are unique in that we have a wellness practitioner and a Montessori guide present at every session. The Montessori guide’s role is to help settle babies and facilitate exploration of the specially designed Montessori materials and Treasure baskets, giving you and the wellness therapist the mental space to focus on your practice. You and your child will be able to remain close to each other during the sessions.

  • What if I am running late? Please do not worry. We operate entirely on "baby time." We know that leaving the house with a little one can be unpredictable. You are always welcome to join us whenever you arrive so take your time and arrive safely.

  • For your Baby:

Please bring a baby blanket for them to lie on during massage and movement. While we provide mats at the Centre, it is nice to have your own blanket as the familiar smell and texture will help your baby feel secure and settle more easily.

Please read our Centre Guidelines for more details.

  • Joining our termly series offers a progressive journey that builds each week. This routine supports your own steady physical recovery and settles your baby’s nervous system while supporting their developmental milestones through a full range of specially designed Montessori materials.

Committing to a full term also gives you the time to learn the songs and movements, while providing a consistent space to connect with other parents over weekly refreshments.

Please refer to our Centre Guidelines page for more details.

During class, it’s important to minimize screen use to ensure that the focus remains on the children and their activities. Quick photos are allowed, but any phone calls should be taken outside the classroom.

We have a no-refund policy. We offer one make-up class per term for any absence that result from illnesses or family emergencies.

Thank you for your understanding.

So even though we don’t have to teach our babies everything, everything we do teaches them something, and this can feel like a huge responsibility. It is big work. The kind that we can be intentional about.
